I know it’s a while ahead yet but here’s details of some events happening in the valley during Architecture Week in June. The reason for giving so much notice is that you’ll need to make bookings – so get in quick if you’re interested.

 

1 - Changing Ouseburn

Take a look inside some of the Ouseburn's recently refurbished buildings, in particular Boyd Street Studios and Woods Pottery with Mosedale Gillatt Architects, and learn about the ongoing plans for the area. Meet outside the Biscuit Factory on Stoddart Street at 5pm on Tuesday 20th June at 5pm. The tour should last until about 6:30. This is a free event but booking is required. 2 – Byker Redevelopment and other icons of the 20th Century

A photographic exhibition reflecting the unique qualities of Erskine's iconic Byker Redevelopment in the context of other world class architectural developments such as the Unite d'Habitation, Nemausus and Chandigarh. Come and celebrate Newcastle's inner-city social housing estate.

This exhibition takes place inside one of the Byker Wall flats on Rabygate on Sunday 18th June between 10:00am and 12:00noon, and between 12:30 and 7:00pm and again on the evening of Tuesday 20th June between 5:00 and 7:00. 3 – A Place called home

A fun family workshop in which participants will be inspired by illustrations of homes in children's stories. Children, supported by accompanying parents or guardians, will model their dream home! This workshop is suitable for children aged 7-12 and is running alongside Brilliant Bridges. (See below)

This participative hands-on workshop is for children/families and will take place at Seven Stories - The Centre for Children's Books on Sunday 18th June between 11:30am and 12:30 and between 1:30pm and 2:30. These events are free but must be booked as there are 25 places per session. Contact Seven Stories on 0845 271 0777

 

4 – Brilliant Bridges

A fun family workshop in which participants will be inspired by the Byker bridges and other super structures. Children, supported by parents or guardians, will build their own brilliant bridge! This workshop is suitable for children aged 7–12 and is running alongside A Place Called Home. (See above)

This participative hands-on workshop is for children/families and will take place at Ouseburn Farm on Sunday 18th June between 11:30am and 12:30 and between 1:30pm and 2:30. These events are free but must be booked as there are 25 places per session. Contact Ouseburn Farm on (0191) 232 3698

 

5 – Pages, People and Pigeons

A tour by the Architect and Operations Director looking at the design concept and how it supports the end use of the Centre for Children's Books. Will include access to "backstage" areas.

This tour will take place at Seven Stories - The Centre for Children's Books on Wednesday 21st June between 1:00pm and 2:30. Please note that the tour will include "back stage" areas that are not accessible to wheelchair users or people with mobility problems.
