I have just been finishing off my personal accounts in preparation for filling my self-employed tax return online.

Pension info

Here are some links to assist in setting aside some of today's wealth, so that tomorrow is a bit easier.

Remember personal pension contributions are deducted before tax, so effectively for every 79p you save- the Government "gives you" 21p.

But I am not really qualified to advise- so best seek professional pension help..

Personally speaking, if you are self employed, like me, I would recommend

I found their free (Arts Council funded) course very informative.

The results of the summer Survey

During summer, the North East Centre of Excellence sent out a survey on social clauses in public procurement contracts on behalf of the Office of the Third Sector. The survey sought views on the use of social clauses, their benefits and barriers to their use.

The survey confirmed there was much interest in the use of social clauses, and people have found them valuable.

Social Enterprise Café opens in Sunderland

On the 23rd October, the Journal reported that a group from the Fulwell Day Centre had opened a social enterprise coffee shop in Sunderland’s Barnes Park . The Fulwell Day Centre for adults with learning difficulties has opened the Coach House. The workers secured the help of Social Enterprise Sunderland (SES) and a grant from the council. John Grabham of the centre stated “We liked the idea of the cafe being a social enterprise so that the day centre users would actually own it and really work to make sure it’s a success – it’s a very good incentive for them.” Mark Saddington, a director of SES said “This is an innovative project that helps people access real and meaningful employment while being part of an exciting venture that gives families and park visitors an excellent facility to enjoy.”
