Painting with Rainbows – A Michael Foreman Exhibition
Michael Foreman is one of Britain’s best-loved writer-illustrators of children’s books. Through the exhibition we will use Michael's books to ask readers to consider the consequences of conflict, the fragility of our environment and the importance of friendship, empathy and tolerance through his insightful storytelling and beautiful illustrations.
Families are invited to add to the ‘Tree of Hope’ with messages for the future; explore stories of war and peace through War Boy, War Game, The General and Ali Pasha, build and play in a multi-sensory environment inspired by Dinosaurs and All That Rubbish and One World, and be inspired by Michael’s creative process in his artist’s studio with his own personal artefacts.

Rhyme Around the World - A Nursery Rhyme Exhibition
This lively & colourful exhibition invites families to step straight into their favourite nursery rhymes and discover new ones from around the world, exploring how stories, song and rhyme are shared across generations and continents. With sensory opportunities and beautiful and varied work by international illustrators, there’s something here for all the family.

A Bear Called Paddington (StoryLab Exhibition)
Grab your duffle coat and your marmalade sandwiches and discover how Michael Bond brought Paddington Bear to life. Packed with original illustrations and manuscripts from the series, this StoryLab exhibition explores the adventures of everyone’s favourite friendly bear from deepest, darkest Peru.

Wander down to the farm this summer and enjoy all your favourite stories as Seven Stories goes On the Road to Jesmond Dene. Bring to life the wonderful world of children’s books in this glorious setting with interactive storytelling and multi-sensory activities ideal for inspiring your little booklovers.
Fee Fi Foo Fum, the Smartest Giant needs help! Listen to Julia Donaldson’s classic picturebook and join in with fun activities for under4s.

How to Be Bad with E.Lockhart

YA author E.Lockhart (We Were Liars, The Boyfriend List) will be visiting Newcastle on Sunday 21 June as part of a 2,000 mile tour to celebrate the release of How to Be Bad, her new book with Lauren Myracle and Sarah Mlynowski.
Join us at Malmaison Hotel on Newcastle Quayside for the chance to meet E.Lockhart herself and find out more abour her popular novels. Ask questions and enjoy an evening with E.Lockhart herself.
How to Be Bad follows the story of three girls who go on a roadtrip to escape their homes in Niceville. Each of the three authors - Lockhart, Myracle and Mlynowski - each wrote a different character and each chapter is written from the voice of one of the girls.
Bring along your books from home, this event will be followed by a book signing (pre-signed bookplates from Lauren Myracle and Sarah Mlynowski will also be available)

Into the Woods Armchair Journey

We will be bringing your favourite children's books to life at Kirkley Hall to celebrate The Children's Foundations 25th anniversary. Take part in livey storytelling sessions, join in with our Mixed - Up Fairy Tale Performance and make your own animal mask to take home surrounded by beautiful woodland. The doorbell rings just as Sophie and her mummy are sitting down to tea. Who could it possibly be? What they certainly don’t expect to see at the door is a big, stripy tiger!
Join in an interactive storytelling session and create your own tiger masks to take home as we celebrate one of our favourite picture books, The Tiger Who Came to Tea which will be brought to life at Theatre Royal.
Free additional event. Tickets must be purchased from Theatre Royal for performances of The Tiger Who Came To Tea www.theatreroyal.co.uk . A Relaxed screening can be booked at 4pm on Friday 3 July. Those attending showings of the production must make sure to be in their seats with enough time before the performance starts.

Tiptoe, tiptoe, shhhh…. creep up to the Artists Attic and enjoy an interactive performances throughout the day, inspired by Chris Haughton’s stunning picture book Shhh, We Have a Plan.

The Starlight Goodwill Ambassadors Storytelling Roadshow
Sunday 9th August

All the family (recommended for ages 5+)
Join in an interactive performance as 26 Taiwanese children bring Taiwanese and Chinese culture, history and local folktales to life through storytelling, body language and simple hand puppets. The children will even be giving away souvenirs straight from their stories and bringing along authentic edibles for the audience to sample.
The Starlight Goodwill Ambassadors are part of a cultural exchange from Taiwan and will also be performing at Edinburgh Festival.
Free event, booking recommended. Admission fee to the centre applies. Entry to Seven Stories is free after 2pm with an event ticket.

Yo Ho Ho! Meet Jonny Duddle, author of The Pirate Cruncher, The Pirates Next Door and The Jolley-Rogers series and hear him read from his hilarious stories. Join in with live drawing and help Jonny to draw the perfect pirate in this interactive event. Did you know, Jonny helped design the characters for Aardman’s stop-motion movie The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists! which was released in 2012.

Illustration Master Class with Jonny Duddle

Jonny Duddle is the illustrator of The Pirate Cruncher, The Pirates Next Door and dinosaur fable, Giganotosaurus. He spends most of his time drawing and busily creating worlds based on his time as a pirate…arrrh!
Don’t miss this exclusive opportunity to work alongside Jonny Duddle and find out more about how he began his varied illustration career and the steps of his creative process before developing your own skills. Come along and learn how to use different artistic techniques, inspired by Jonny’s vibrant style, to create your own artwork.

Shark in the Park is a Seven Stories favourite so we were very excited for the release of Shark in the Park on a Windy Day and What the Jackdaw Saw, Nick’s new collaboration with Julia Donaldson. Meet Nick Sharratt and join in with an interactive storytelling with live drawing and the chance to ask Nick questions about what it is like being a best-selling author and illustrator in this fin-tasticly fun event

An Evening with Sarah Crossan and Jenny McLachlan

Meet Sarah Crossan (author of Carnegie shortlisted Weight of Water and Apple and Rain) and Jenny McLachlan(author of Flirty Dancing and Love Bomb) in conversation with their agent Julia Churchill.
Hear how teaching has influenced their writing styles, their career routes into becoming YA authors and why having the right agent is so important. Fans of Sarah and Jenny can ask questions about their work and favourite characters while aspiring authors can find out more about a career in writing for young adults.

An Evening with Patrick Ness

Don’t miss two time Carnegie Medal Winner and YA favourite, Patrick Ness as he discusses his brand-new book The Rest of Us Just Live Here (released November 2015). Hear Patrick talk candidly about his writing process, where he finds inspiration for his dystopian novels and what he thinks the future for the genre holds.
Talking about his new book, Patrick said, “What if you lived in a world a lot like a YA novel? Where people you know have already battled vampires and zombies and soul-eating ghosts and whatever this new thing turns out to be? What if you just want to go to prom and graduate before someone goes and blows up the high school again? I wanted to write a novel for anyone trying to live a normal life in a world gone mad, for anyone who actually has bigger problems than this week’s end of the world, for anyone who needs to find out that there are many different kinds of extraordinary.”
10 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Patrick Ness:
1. He has a tattoo of a rhinoceros.
2. He has run two marathons.
3. He is a certified scuba diver.
4. Patrick wrote a radio comedy about vampires.
