Notice Board

At the Development Control Committee meeting of 12th October the application relating to the proposed development near the Free Trade was deferred as there had been an omission during the consultation process which needed to be addressed in order to avoid the potential for a procedural challenge. It’ll now be heard on Friday, 2nd November

BREAKING NEWS - the application has been withdrawn for further consultation to take place, but will be back on the agenda for the November Development Control meeting.

I’ve been reminded that sessions of the Development Control Committee are open to the public.

On Friday 12th October the Committee will consider a number of applications, including “Land at confluence of Rivers Tyne and Ouseburn, east of Mariners Wharf , Ouseburn”. Here’s the agenda, if you fancy popping along to see democracy in action ask at main reception which room the meeting’s in.

The report of the government inspector looking into the proposed barrage across the Ouseburn under Glasshouse Bridge has recently been published. If you’d like to read it here’s an interesting link.

The following section has been taken from the government inspector's report into the objection relating to the Ouseburn Barrage. -Alex

Overall Conclusions

In my opinion, the wide-ranging regeneration and socio-economic benefits that would arise as a result of providing the proposed barrage in the Ouseburn would clearly outweigh the limited environmental impacts that would remain after mitigation. I accordingly conclude that the case for making the Order, as amended, and conferring on NCC the CPO powers contained therein is compelling and in the public interest.

I likewise conclude that it would be in the public interest to grant the associated application for deemed planning consent.

I also conclude that the S19 Certificate should be granted. In coming to these conclusions I have taken into account the ES and other environmental information, including comments and representations made by statutory consultees and members of the public.
